Shortly after losing my mother on 16th April 2020 to Covid in a Care Home, I became involved in the Covid-19 Bereaved Families for Justice facebook group. I dedicated many hours helping to build up the membership, which was just over 60 people at the time, to now over 7000. I became a media spokesperson as I wanted to raise awareness and did so via interviews on radio, television and newspapers, nationally and locally for the North East. From the start I also volunteered and took on various roles including facebook admin, writing regular newsletter updates, administration support and assisting with press officer duties. This led to being invited onto the Central Campaign Team. Campaigning became an integral part of my life, not only for justice but also to build a community of bereaved people that could support each other at such an unprecedented time, having had the usual rituals of grief stripped away.
In my professional life I am a multi skilled Holistic Wellbeing Practitioner working at a grass roots level within my local Community.I deliver a host of creative activities including bespoke art engagement programmes particularly aimed at the over 50's and those who are socially isolated. I also have over 15 years experience in the fitness industry teaching exercise to people that have long term health conditions and to marginalised groups.
